With SRWC, Where Does Ball Gym Stand?

When Ball State announced it would build a new recreation center on campus, some wondered what would happen with Ball Gymnasium. Now that the Student Recreation and Wellness Center is finished, Ball Gym still gets a good number of patrons using its facilities.

Ball Gym is home to a fitness room, a pool and an indoor track
Ball Gym is more popular with faculty and alumni than with students because of a couple reasons.

One reason is that at Ball Gym, there are hours in the fitness room that are reserved for faculty and alumni.

Another reason is that Ball Gym is a little of the way for most students.  Most residence halls are closer to the SRWC and it is more flashy, drawing more students.

There is also more equipment available at the new facility, but  Ball Gym is often more convenient for faculty.

Along with the special faculty-only hours, Ball Gym is also closer to many professor's offices in North Quad, West Quad and the Cooper Complex.

The new $39 million facility is very impressive, but it is not always convenient for everyone on campus.

While Ball Gym may not get the publicity that the new facility does, it does give students and faculty another option for getting their workout in sometime during the day.
